Orthodontics (Braces)

Orthodontics (which most of us know as braces) describes the art of using appliances to straighten and align teeth. At The Modern Dentist, our orthodontic dentist uses braces to move teeth into their proper position.

Dr. Vanessa Rashid will bond brackets to your teeth with arch wires threaded through the brackets. The arch wires act as a track, guiding each tooth to its proper position.

At The Modern Dentist, we offer four kinds of orthodontic treatments:

  • Traditional metal braces
  • Tooth-colored ceramic braces
  • Clear braces
  • Night guards

Traditional Metal Braces

Metal-wired braces are made of stainless steel, sometimes titanium, and are the most common option for braces. These conventional braces, which require ties to hold the arch wire in place, sometimes use newer, self-tying brackets. These newer brackets can help to reduce friction between the wire and the slot of the bracket, providing a therapeutic benefit.

Tooth-Colored Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are translucent brackets that blend in with your natural tooth color. They are used with patients who are concerned about the appearance of their smile, since they are less metallic-looking than traditional braces. Ceramic braces are designed to resist staining and discoloration over long periods of time.

Clear Braces

Clear braces serve as a cosmetic alternative to traditional metal braces by blending in more with the natural color of your teeth. Typically, these brackets are made of plastic materials and function in a similar manner to traditional metal brackets. Clear elastic ties and white metal ties are available to use with clear braces to help keep the appliances less conspicuous.

Night Guards

Many people suffer from nighttime teeth grinding or clenching, also known as bruxism. Night guards can be used to protect your teeth and your bite from being worn down or altered over time.
